We are certain we are not the only ones excited about Bikini Day today. To be honest all the “Summer Ready” exercises have been leading up to this day and it is the perfect time, and weather, to flaunt it.
Why is there a whole day dedicated to bikinis? Bikini Day is the anniversary of the invention of the bikini in 1946 by a Parisian fashion designer, Louis Reard. The goal of this holiday is to get to the closest beach, or find some travel deals to the Philippines, Bali, Hawaii or anywhere with lots of beach, and spend the day in your bikini!
Whether you are going to be by the poolside or heading to the nearest beach around you, we have put together 5 looks to inspire your bikini choice today!

No time like summer to hit the beaches in style, from Côte d’Azur to Zanzibar, from Mauritius to Miami. A few weeks ago, we brought you the top ten beaches in the world, and now our guest writer, Adesola Ade-Unuigbe has us covered (pun intended) for the beach in stylish swimwear inspired by some of these exotic climes.
This look is inspired by Zanzibar – an exotic part of Tanzania in East Africa. This look is tribal and exotic so you can go for ethnic prints that are sexy and flattering to your body shape. For this look we paired Bantu Wax for J.Crew Stir It Up bikini top in frog print with a pair of Bantu elastic print shorts.
This look is inspired by Mauritius – off the southeast coast of the African continent. Again, you want to go for a tribal and exotic look but the trick for this look is to go monokini. This flatters your legs and makes them look smaller. You can add a sarong and just go about your regular day without even hitting the beach. We put an Andrea Iyamah swimsuit alongside an Emilio Pucci cotton sarong.
This look is inspired by Miami – on the Atlantic coast in south-eastern Florida and the county seat of Miami-Dade County. Miami spells out sophistication and style – how can you achieve that with a swimsuit? Go black! Choose a bikini with graphics or accessories but let the majority of your look be black.
This look is inspired by Ibiza – off the coast of the city of Valencia, in eastern Spain. You want to go tropical for this look. Think bright colours and no prints.
This look is inspired by Côte d’Azur – Mediterranean coastline of the southeast corner of France. One thing the world knows is that the French are more liberal. Go all out with this look. If you are feeling daring wearing bikini bottoms and a mesh tank top, just to make a statement. We paired Hawaii tie-side bikini bottoms by Bestforms with a river island mesh tank.
