At the expense of sounding a bit like "This Day in History" we are just going to go ahead and say it: Did you know that today, 14 November is world-renowned Austrian composer Leopold Mozart's birthday? Violinist, teacher, and composer, the father and principal teacher of his perhaps more famous son Violinist, teacher, and composer, the father and principal teacher of his perhaps more famous son Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart was born on this day back in 1719. So what better day than today to have a throwback moment and have a snoop around Mamaison Pachtuv Palace, Prague, Czech Republic, and Room 218 where the composer spent most of his life and composed his greatest works.
The building Mozart called home in 1788, Mamaison Pachtuv Palace was also the place where the composer created some of his best work. The hotel, only a stone throw away from the city's iconic Charles Bridge, and within walking distance of the Old Town, Vltava River quay and winding cobblestone streets of the Mala Strana. A cultural and architectural Prague landmark in its own right, and with 50 richly decorated rooms and suites, the Mamaison Pachtuv Palace offers historic, romantic accommodation in the heart of the city. And for those who like their lodgings to have some age old charm and character, the building retains its original frescoes and vaulted chapel ceilings.
If you want to sleep in the maestro's room, ask for Room 218. While Mozart may have paid for his lodging with six sonatas dedicated to the owner of the property in lieu of rent, we suggest you consider more conventional payment options.
Mamaison Pachtuv Palace, Karolíny Světlé 34, Prague, Czech Republic; rooms from €102.
