A new month means brand new hotel openings. As we usher in the month of May, we explore the brand new hotels opening their doors this month. From New York to Amsterdam, and from Bangkok to Mallorca, let’s have a look at the new gems of the hospitality world.
Radisson Blu Plaza Bangkok
On May 1, Radisson Blu’s first hotel in Thailand’s capital will open its doors to guests. The 29-story hotel located in the bustling commercial centre of Sukhumvit is perfectly positioned for shopaholics, within short distance of shopping and dining destinations of the city.
Radisson Blu Plaza Bangkok blends its signature style with local influences with interiors designed by local firm P49 Deesign. There are 290 rooms on offers, with 20 junior suites, 3 executive suites, and one Royal Deluxe Suite. There are two floors reserved for ‘business class passengers.’
Beyond the four walls of your room though, Radisson Blu Plaza Bangkok offers a variety of attractions including an all-day brasserie Twenty-Seven Bites, China Table for contemporary and traditional Cantonese cuisine, Attico, offering Tuscan-inspired Italian cuisine, and Vintage, the rooftop wine bar offers Cuban cigars.
The Archer Hotel, NYC
New York’s highly anticipated new address The Archer Hotel is set to open its doors in the month of May. What can we expect? “Five-star bedding that begs you to stay. Enticing modern American cuisine from my good friend, Chef David Burke. Well-crafted cocktails served rooftop under the shadow of the Empire State Building. And sincere service – always,” promises Archer on the hotel website.
Rising 22-stories, the hotel’s new industrial elegance evokes the creative soul of its New York City Garment District neighbourhood. The carefully curated interiors are a reflection of Archer – storyteller and adventurer, connoisseur and consummate host.
All 180 unique rooms are designed by Glen Coben who has turned small spaces into luxury abodes with tight editing and artful invention, use of a quartet of design palettes, objects d'art from Archer's journeys, and daily turndown treats, including complimentary treats including Baked by Melissa cupcakes, Fatty Sunday Pretzels, Dylan’s 100 Calorie Bars, Kanpekies Shortbread Cookies, Chocolate Dipped Fancy Fortune Cookies with Archer messages, and, from David Burke (who will be running the hotel's restaurant), black and white Cookies, fruit pops and truffles.
Hotel G, San Francisco
Formerly Hotel Frank before it closed down in 2012, Hotel G located on the corner of Geary and Mason Street, is back in the business on 2 May after an extensive renovation of all 13 floors and 153 guest rooms.
With the design principles of “simple yet functional”, Hotel G features fog-colored walls, wood finishes and earthy fabrics and textiles with some pops of bright colours along with cool decor accents like Victorian settees (a nod to the hotel's past), vintage school house chairs, banker's lamps and mid-century writing desks.
You can also hang out at the lobby from 4:30 to 6 p.m. to experience two San Francisco classics, Anchor Steam beer and “G”-shaped pretzels made by Boudin Bakery.
ME Mallorca
The former Beach House Hotel located on a beach in Calvià next door to the party central Nikki Beach opens its doors this May as ME Mallorca. At ME Mallorca always at hand to help you whatever you’re after are Aura Managers – “the driver of the vibe and the leader of personalised service.”
There will be 246 rooms and 78 suites, ranging from entry-level Aura Rooms to the three-bedroom Suite ME with its own dedicated Aura Manager.
There is plenty to do outside the confines of your room too. You can lounge by either of the two outdoor pools all day long or explore the SkinC spa and fitness facilities. Oh and, did we say Nikki Beach is only next-door?
Waldorf Astoria Amsterdam
Set to open for business on 1 May is Amsterdam’s latest luxury address, Waldorf Astoria Amsterdam. Spread across six historic town houses that date back to the 1600s on one of the city’s central canals, the hotel will have 93 rooms and suites.
The setting of this storied destination is matched by its unparalleled facilities including stylish fine dining options in partnership with 3-Michelin star restaurant De Librije, and the luxurious Guerlain spa. There is also the Peacock Alley where guests can enjoy exquisite all-day tea and coffee service and savor indulgent afternoon tea with a selection of tempting cakes and freshly-made pastries. Other highlights include the private gardens, the indoor swimming pool, and the Vault Bar, taking advantage of the building previously housing a private bank.
